It is a game that will join the likes of FTL and Spulunky as games that are forever in my regular rotation, and for a game like this, I can offer pelo higher praise.
Jun 22, 2021 - Check out 11 minutes of fast first-person action gameplay in Phantom Abyss. In Phantom Abyss, you compete with other players around the world to steal an idol from a temple filled with tough jumps, booby traps, and hidden keys.
One of the game’s highlights is how it cleverly bakes a sense of community into its design through the implementation of phantoms – ghosts of other players who came before you and were bested by the temple. Beyond merely providing a glimpse of where others died, these phantoms are both an assistance and a hindrance, as they activate the many proximity-based traps in each temple.
However, players who deploy it as a pass-the-controller experience at their next party will almost certainly get a lot out of it. This is an excellent game to play with a few friends after a drink or two, with everyone taking a run and passing the controls on when they either die or complete a level. Everyone else gets to hoot, holler, heckle, and rejoice as the run unfolds, and Phantom Abyss
Healing three hearts is insanely good, and can save a poor run, especially near the end. This is a somewhat situational blessing, and can be less useful or even useless on a good run. Your mileage may vary.
It may take some getting used to, but it can be an excellent strategy for quickly clearing rooms and obstacles. Should you choose to run the Ice Whip with its curse enabled, this blessing moves from one of the worst to one of the most essential.
Social Connections – Players can share Temple Codes for their failed runs allowing friends to attempt the same Phantom Abyss Speedrun temple or share their Adventure Code which yields a playlist of temples that player has attempted in the past.
The red moving platforms will stay forever unless you have spawned into the main hub where the whips are located.
Phantom Abyss is a massive asynchronous multiplayer game that casts players into procedurally-generated temples and tasks them with retrieving the sacred relics hidden within deadly chambers. Intrepid adventurers will dodge scores of hidden traps, leap treacherous chasms, and flee relentless guardians through branching paths until one of the relics are claimed or the devices of death overwhelm them.
There are four main levels, each based around an element like fire or water. At each main stage, there are six temple runs to choose from, and only three of them need to be completed to progress to the next zone.
It’s fast and fluid, its controls are sharp, and it knows exactly what kind of game it wants to be. It’s also lean as hell and doesn’t waste a second of your time, which I mightily respect.
The more I talk about this game, the more I want to play it. Check out the trailer and you’ll see what I mean.
